Fire in va­cant build­ing

On April 27, a passer-by re­ported smoke com­ing from a va­cant build­ing lo­cated at 866 Boyd Ave. Crews re­ported heavy smoke com­ing from the top level of the two and a half storey build­ing but had dif­fi­cul­ties reach­ing the top level due to build­ing ren­o­va­tions and changes to the build­ing over the years. Af­ter gain­ing en­try into the fire level, the fire was ex­tin­guished. The fire ap­peared to have started in the ceil­ing of the sec­ond floor and spread to the top level and at­tic space. No in­juries were re­ported. How­ever, a lit­ter of kit­tens was found in the build­ing, and they were moved to safety and even­tu­ally picked up by the Hu­mane So­ci­ety. Dam­ages have been es­ti­mated at $50,000 to the build­ing, and there were no con­tents of value in the build­ing. The
