"Af­ter all those treat­ments of chemo­ther­apy and ev­ery­thing else, you def­i­nitely don’t want to go through that again. I told my­self I had to do ev­ery­thing in my power to get healthy."

The mother of two lost a to­tal of 13.5 per cent body weight, 31.8 pounds and 24 inches off her stom­ach and hips alone.

Af­ter meet­ing Smart at a work­shop, Daly heard about the con­test that was in­spired by the hit re­al­ity show The Big­gest Loser and was one of 12 cho­sen out of hun­dreds of ap­pli­ca­tions.

"At that point it was tough, but we took the re­sponses we got from ev­ery­body and se­lected the peo­ple who we thought would con­trib­ute to the most pos­i­tive en­vi­ron­ment," said Delorey.

The goal, said Smart, was to cre­ate a friendly ver­sion, to en­cour­age peo­ple to adopt a health­ier life­style.
