BOMA BOMA 2012/2013
BOMA Ottawa is pleased to report that 2012 was one of our busiest years in recent memory.
Since 2010 our volunteers and staff have prepared to host BOMEX®2012, the annual gathering of the Commercial Real Estate industry under the BOMA banner.
Over 250 delegates, and 150 trade show participants descended on the Westin Hotel between September 11-13 to visit over 78 exhibitors booths, participate in education sessions and network. The conference began with a golf tournament that took place at Grey Hawk and had 288 golfers play in glorious weather conditions. This was followed by a VIP party, for all our delegates and golfers at the Westin Hotel, where they feasted on a variety of dishes and were entertained with live music.
The conference also offered many topics of interest to those in the industry, including sessions on Transforming the Federal Government Workplace, and the evolving Work Places in general, Lease Audits, BOMA BESt, Tenant Engagement, Asbestos and Mold Abatement and Social Media in Commercial Real Estate.
We also tackled topics that were economic in nature with a presentation on the outlook for the Canadian Economy the release of the BOMA/Hays Annual Compensation Survey and an update of a report by Deloitte on the Impact of the Commercial Real Estate Industry on Local Ottawa Economy. This report will be published in conjunction with the Ottawa Real Estate Forum conference on October 11, 2012.
Despite our busy schedule with BOMEX, BOMA Ottawa still organized all its usual programming in 2012 including our highly anticipated networking events for curling, golf and our ski day to complement the monthly Lunch Series. We also organized 9 BOMI Courses through 2012 and launched a new initiative in education with Operators.
BOMA continues to work closely with city of Ottawa on advocacy initiatives, with our latest participation in helping the city to develop strategies to diversify the economy, and attract new companies to the capital. As the Deloitte study shows, Commercial Real Estate plays a prominent business is a role for the entire industry to play a part in.
