Chemical plant explosion kills 14
Fourteen workers were killed and five injured Saturday in an explosion at a chemical plant in east China, state media reported, citing local authorities. The explosion occurred at a melamine production facility in Xintai, in Shandong province. Workers were maintaining and repairing a condenser when the blast occurred, Xinhau said. Four workers died immediately and another 10 died in hospital. The five injured were in a stable condition and an investigation into the cause of the accident was under way, Xinhua said.
