Chem­i­cal plant ex­plo­sion kills 14

Four­teen work­ers were killed and five in­jured Satur­day in an ex­plo­sion at a chem­i­cal plant in east China, state me­dia re­ported, cit­ing lo­cal au­thor­i­ties. The ex­plo­sion oc­curred at a melamine pro­duc­tion fa­cil­ity in Xin­tai, in Shan­dong prov­ince. Work­ers were main­tain­ing and re­pair­ing a con­denser when the blast oc­curred, Xin­hau said. Four work­ers died im­me­di­ately and an­other 10 died in hos­pi­tal. The five in­jured were in a sta­ble con­di­tion and an in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the cause of the ac­ci­dent was un­der way, Xin­hua said.
