Ital­ian court con­victs 110 in mafia trial

A court in the north­ern Ital­ian city of Mi­lan on Satur­day or­dered prison sen­tences of up to 16 years for 110 peo­ple in a ma­jor trial of the Cal­abrian mafia, the Ndrangheta, ANSA re­ported. De­fen­dants booed their own lawyers amid noisy protests as the sen­tences were handed down. The heav­i­est sen­tences were against two heads of mafia fam­i­lies work­ing in the Mi­lan re­gion: Alessan­dro Manno got a 16-year term, while Cosimo Bar­ranca was jailed for 14 years.
