Pickup truck hits, kills man

Brian Thompson has been identified by Ottawa police as the man who was struck and killed by a pickup truck downtown on Friday afternoon. The 53-yearold Ottawa man was struck near the intersection of Preston and Rochester streets around 2:14 p.m., and witnesses said they saw him leaving a nearby coin-wash laundromat shortly before the collision. Paramedics arrived to find Thompson vital signs absent and suffering from multi-system trauma and head injuries. He was taken to The Ottawa Hospital trauma centre in critical condition.
