“I got this metal detector as a retirement gift, from my husband. I told him I’d like to try it. I retired in July.

“I could spend every hour doing this. My first time doing it wasn’t until August, because I had to buy more equipment. I’m looking for jewelry, money maybe. I’ve been out about 10 times — it was too warm this summer — but so far I haven’t found anything interesting. Nothing. Today I found a dime, a quarter, a penny, nails and pull-tabs from cans. But it’s always fun to find something. I’d be very happy if I found a ring.

“I’ve always done this by myself. I go to small parks in Hull, in Gatineau, and here. I think I’d like it better with someone else, but my husband is not too passionate for this. I also fish, and it’s similar: sometimes we get nothing. But I’ll go home happy, because I passed some time outside.”
