Current renaming trend not helpful

-

The fixation on past wrongs provides very little benefit, but a whole lot of drama.

The first lesson of studying history is not denial of events for good or bad, but that those events happened in a particular context and must be interpreted within that context. Learn lessons from history so as not to repeat the past. Forgetting and suppressing history is the best way to ensure repetition.

I cannot help but wonder if those pushing the movement to rename anything and everything they interpret to be unacceptable would feel the same if told that they will never be remembered for any good deeds they have done, but only for any mistakes they made, and these mistakes will be judged against social mores as to what is acceptable 50 or 100 years from now. Good luck with that legacy! Erin Thiessen, Kanata
