Drive-by shooting gunfire came from Jeep, say police

Ottawa Citizen - - CITY - MEGAN GILLIS

Police are hunting a newer white Jeep Cherokee from which a minimum of 17 rounds were fired early Thursday morning, wounding two bystanders outside a Kanata bar.

Investigators with the guns and gangs unit revealed the new information Friday in hopes the public will help them track down the vehicle used in the drive-by shooting which struck two men who police say were not the intended targets.

The men were caught in the volley of gunshots fired outside the Crazy Horse bar in the Kanata Centrum mall around 2:15 a.m. Thursday.

One of the victims was a 28-yearold off-duty member of the British military.

Initially, police would only confirm that a 28-year-old man had been shot in the leg and left with serious injuries. He was in stable condition in hospital.

Police later said a second man, 22, was also struck, suffering minor injuries in the shooting.

Police arrived on the scene after getting multiple 911 calls reporting a shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call the guns and gangs unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5050. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800222-8477 (TIPS), or by downloading the Ottawa police app.
