How much money is being spent?

David Reevely writes, “the provincial government’s ‘jobs and prosperity fund,’ its main subsidy tool, only has $270 million a year of taxpayer cash to dole out.” Yet Randall Denley writes that “Ontario gives away about $5 billion a year to businesses.”
Ottawa Citizen readers would like a clearer indication of just how much those Ontario subsidies total. The 20-fold discrepancy between these two contributors is unsatisfactory. Don Phillipson, Carlsbad Springs, Ont.
