McDuffie not ready to return

Ottawa Citizen - - SPORTS - Tim Baines

While the Ottawa Redblacks hope to get dynamic returner/receiver Quincy McDuffie back into their lineup soon, it doesn’t look like it will happen Sunday.

With the Redblacks in Montreal to play the Alouettes in an afternoon game, McDuffie, it seems, will remain on the injured list.

“He’s taking a lot longer than any of us, including him, would have hoped or wanted,” said Redblacks GM Marcel Desjardins Friday.

Dominique Rhymes will likely start at one receiver spot Sunday with Jake Harty seeing time as well. Kevin Elliott, signed a couple of weeks ago, isn’t an option.

Explained Desjardins: “The understanding with Kevin was, ‘Look, you’re coming here to add depth, but no promises beyond that.’ Will Kevin Elliott get on the roster this year? Maybe, but certainly that’s not a foregone conclusion — especially with (Juron) Criner getting healthy and maybe a couple of weeks away.”

As for Harty, Desjardins said: “It’s a function managing him from a health perspective. Both Rhymes and (Harty) will play.”
