PEDESTRIAN FACES MURDER CHARGE IN OFFICER’S DEATH
CONCORDIA, KAN. A pedestrian faces charges of second-degree murder and pedestrian under the influence after a Kansas police officer died when his motorcycle crashed into another vehicle that had slowed to avoid the person walking on the highway.
The Concordia Blade-Empire reports 48-year-old Concordia officer Marc Henry, pictured, was killed Monday afternoon on Highway 81 in Ottawa County.
“A pedestrian was walking along the southbound 81 Highway in Ottawa County,” police Lt. Roy Henry told the Concordia Blade-Empire. “Vehicles had slowed to avoid striking the pedestrian. A white Kia stopped in the lane of traffic. A motorcycle driven by Marc Henry rear-ended the Kia.” The newspaper report did not clarify whether the pedestrian was walking in the traffic lane or on the shoulder.
Henry worked for Clay Center police, and also was a member of the National Guard in the Army and the Marine Corps. Henry will be buried Friday with full military honours.
