Stab­bing sus­pect prompts stand­off

A 33-year-old man was to face a num­ber of charges in Gatineau court Fri­day af­ter an early-morn­ing stab­bing led to a four-hour stand­off with po­lice. Po­lice were called at about 1 a.m. to a res­i­dence on rue Dol­lard-des- Ormeaux, near the Portage Bridge in the Hull dis­trict. At the scene, they found the 27-year-old vic­tim with stab wounds to the arm. She was taken to hospi­tal, treated and re­leased. The sus­pect re­fused to leave the res­i­dence and the build­ing was sur­rounded by po­lice, in­clud­ing tac­ti­cal squad of­fi­cers. Traf­fic along Maison­neuve Boule­vard was blocked. The man fi­nally sur­ren­dered just be­fore 5 a.m.
