When Norca, the new restau­rant in­side the Le Ger­main Ho­tel on Daly Av­enue, opened this fall, the fo­cus was on chef Do­minique Du­four’s am­bi­tious menu. Du­four, a 31-year-old chef orig­i­nally from Mon­treal, aims to high­light North­ern cui­sine through Cana­dian in­gre­di­ents — and only Cana­dian in­gre­di­ents. But the in­te­rior of Norca is also no­table, its calm­ing, so­phis­ti­cated am­bi­ence wel­com­ing tourists and lo­cals alike. Wish­bone chairs, leather arm­chairs, and vel­vet benches of­fer plenty of seat­ing op­tions, while wide plank floors con­trast with the sil­ver in Moroc­can pen­dant lights. The re­sult is com­fort­able but so­phis­ti­cated — just like the Cana­dian food served.
