Charges fol­low al­leged fake rob­bery re­port

Ot­tawa po­lice have charged a 50-year-old man af­ter an in­ves­ti­ga­tion found no ev­i­dence to sup­port the man’s claims that he had been robbed.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the man re­ported that he had been the vic­tim of a swarm­ing-style rob­bery near 100 Besserer St. down­town on May 19. He claimed he was robbed by two sus­pects, one of whom had a knife. He said they stole his pre­scrip­tion med­i­ca­tions, which he had just picked up.

An in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the man’s claims found no ev­i­dence to sup­port his story.

Po­lice have charged Ran­dolph Hill with pub­lic mis­chief. Hill is to ap­pear in court on Aug. 22.
