King Felix out weeks
In the midst of the AL wild card chase, the Seattle Mariners will be without starter Felix Hernandez for three to four weeks because of bursitis in his right shoulder.
General manager Jerry Dipoto gave the update on Hernandez on Tuesday.
Marco Gonzales, acquired in a trade with St. Louis last month, has taken Hernandez’s spot in the rotation.
Seattle also placed righthanded reliever David Phelps on the 10-day disabled list with an impingement in his right elbow. He’s expected to miss two to three weeks.
The Mariners also acquired right-hander Ernesto Frieri from the Texas Rangers for $1.
Frieri, 32, was 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA in six relief appearances for Texas.
Clayton Kershaw threw aggressively off flat ground on Tuesday but Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts says the team will take a cautious approach to the Dodgers’ ace’s return to the rotation.
Kershaw has been sidelined with a back injury since July 23,
Roberts said there is no timetable for the left-hander’s return and said the two have talked about Kershaw needing four or five starts to be ready for the post-season.
