OC Transpo driver faces child sex charges

An OC Transpo driver ac­cused of sex­u­ally abus­ing three young boys from 2012 to 2016 is now fac­ing charges of threat­en­ing to kill one of their par­ents.

Philip Her­bert, the ac­cused child­sex crim­i­nal, is also charged with mis­chief af­ter Ot­tawa po­lice say he broke one of the boys’ fa­ther’s golf clubs be­fore re­turn­ing them by throw­ing them on the front yard.

Her­bert, 38, was charged ear­lier this year for an al­leged se­ries of child sex crimes against three boys dat­ing back to 2012. The charges in­clude sex­ual as­sault and sex­ual touch­ing.

The sex crimes in­ves­ti­ga­tion be­gan Jan. 13 when a boy un­der 16 re­ported that he had been in­ap­pro­pri­ately touched by Her­bert. The sex as­sault squad’s in­ves­ti­ga­tion iden­ti­fied two other al­leged vic­tims, both boys un­der 16. In all, Her­bert, who used to drive OC Transpo high school runs, is charged with three counts of sex­ual as­sault, three counts of sex­ual in­ter­fer­ence, four counts of ut­ter­ing threats and one count of mis­chief to prop­erty (golf clubs).

The city’s tran­sit op­er­a­tions of­fice de­clined to com­ment on Her­bert’s sta­tus at OC Transpo, say­ing “per­son­nel mat­ters are con­fi­den­tial and we are not able to dis­close any em­ployee in­for­ma­tion.”
