A Special Someone

Our Canada - - News - Elaine Lawton, Fort Assiniboine, Alta.

Thank you so much to the Mackeigans for sharing their story “Living the Beauty of Down Syndrome” about their daughter Jordan Grace (April- May 2017). We, too, had a very special person in our lives. My brother-in-law Alan Randal Lawton was born April 12, 1955. He loved children, animals of all sorts—and burgers with fries and gravy! Randy had a gentle spirit and a quiet inner strength. When he was a young man, his ability to remember family members’ birthdays was amazing. Although he may not have been entirely sure what day of the week it was, he always knew if it was someone’s birthday. Shortly after meeting Randy, I had the misfortune of also meeting a Welch pony named Night. You could try all day to catch her for a ride, with no luck. Soon, along would come Randy; he’d walk right out into the field, talking to Night all the while, wrap his arms around her neck, slip her bridle on, swing up on her back and off they’d fly! I know in my heart that when Randy got to Heaven, the first thing he did was catch that black pony and ride like the wind.

The adorable Jordan Grace. For an update on what the Mackeigans are up to, turn to page 8.
