A spe­cial trib­ute to help mark Canada’s 150th an­niver­sary

Charles was born on Sept 27,1922, in Lon­don, Ont. He joined the Cana­dian army at 18 with the 69th Bat­tery, Royal Cana­dian Ar­tillery Reg­i­ment, but trans­ferred to the Royal Cana­dian Ser­vice Corps in Septem­ber 1942. A vet­eran of the Nor­mandy cam­paign, he landed on Juno Beach on D-day ”Plus 4“(June 10,1944).

“They gave us this big pack of wa­ter­proof­ing and we packed it all around the truck; any­thing where wa­ter would come in was wa­ter­proofed. We had 155-mm fixed am­mu­ni­tion shells as our cargo...”
