Sainte Flavie, Que., on the south shore of the Saint Lawrence River, is home to Le Grand Rassemblement (The Grand Gathering), an unusual collection of more than 100 wooden and stone figures. Some are perched in the water, while others stand on the beach, often disappearing and reappearing with the tides. The life-sized figures—carved by Canadian artist Marcel Gagnon— create a haunting presence. Originally created as studies for his paintings, they’re now the main attraction at the Centre d’art Marcel Gagnon in Sainte-flavie.
