A Trip Back in Time

Our Canada - - In Your Words -

I have enjoyed your magazine for many years and always look forward to reading people’s stories of adventure, history and their love of this great country of ours. As I was reading Miriam Robert’s Our Travels story “Coast to Coast” (December-january 2018), I realized that her young son (shown skiing in Jasper) was a student in my Grade 1 class in 1978. In fact, on the first day of school, he and I were photographed by the local newspaper as I helped him board the school bus. I believe the caption read “First Day of School,” which was true for both of us! That newspaper clipping has long since disappeared, but I did dig through all of my old school photos to locate some pictures of that delightful first class in Drayton Valley, Alta. My search brought back many memories of a wonderful 35year teaching career, my students and the many interesting people I met along the way. Thank you, Miriam, for the trip down memory lane and for showing us how well you have loved your chosen country for the past 50 years! Sandy (Laird) Semenyna, Edmonton
