Can­dle­light Pa­rade runs Fri­day evening

The tree­tops will be glis­ten­ing in

Oril­lia Fri­day.

The an­nual Chil­dren’s Can­dle­light Pa­rade takes place Fri­day evening. More than 80,000 twin­kling lights and 34 warm light spheres will line the down­town streets and light the night for all to see.

The pa­rade be­gins in the park­ing lot of Royal Cana­dian Le­gion Branch 34 at 6:30 p.m. There, all kids un­der the age of 12 will be given a bat­tery op­er­ated can­dle to hold as they walk up Mis­sis­saga Street, led by the town crier.

Af­ter singing Christ­mas car­ols through the down­town core to the Oril­lia Opera House, the switch will be thrown to light up the city’s Christ­mas tree, fea­ture more than 16,000 lights. The tree light­ing is sched­uled for ap­prox­i­mately 7 p.m.

About 6,000 feet of lights will be used this year down­town, as well as 50 hang­ing bas­kets in­cor­po­rated into the streetscape.

The Santa Claus Pa­rade makes its way through down­town Sun­day af­ter­noon.
