The legendary hot hatch is still going strong in its seventh iteration. Between the 210-horsepower engine, awesome handling and that classic plaid interior, what’s not to like? The 2016 model features some new tech in the form of VW Car Net App-Connect - allows you to pair your smartphone, no matter where your allegiance lies. The six-speed DSG with paddle shifters is the nicest version yet, and the electric assisted direct steering provides good feedback and response in concert with the sport-tuned suspension. Either three- or five-door configurations are available on the GTI, while the rallyready all-wheel drive Golf R comes in fivedoor only, but now with DSG available as well. The GTI Performance models receive an electronically-controlled hydraulic limited slip differential, larger brakes, real time damper control and an extra 10 hp, though that sleeper Golf R is the beast of the lineup, boasting 292 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque.
