Penticton earns FIRESMART label

Penticton is now a FireSmart community. Deputy chief Christ Forster says the newly earned status stems from wildfire prevention initiatives the Penticton Fire Department has carried out over the past several years.

“Wildfires strike fast and when they spread into urban areas not every home can be attended or defended by firefighters. However, communities that have taken steps to reduce their vulnerability have a greater chance of surviving a wildfire,” Forster said in a press release.
