Extra police deployed for festival weekend

Penticton Herald - - OKANAGAN -

Kelowna RCMP say they'll have extra policing on this weekend while the Centre of Gravity sports and music festival takes place in City Park.

“Enhanced policing and enforcement strategies have been developed,” local police said in a news release.

“Additional resources from the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) of British Columbia and the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) will be in the city to ensure that members of the general public and event participants enjoy the event safely.”

CFSEU and ALERT are known for monitoring gang activity.

RCMP say there will be a zero-tolerance policy toward open liquor, drug use, trafficking, public intoxication and “other disturbing or violent behaviours.”

Police say they are also working closely with COG organizers and security.

Snoop Dogg is the major headliner at Centre of Gravity, which started Friday night.
