Wage increase won’t solve it all

-

Dear editor: How does increasing the minimum wage help the poor and disabled?

The wages go up and all things will increase, including food and necessities.

The thing I don’t understand is the disabled and people on welfare have it hard enough — too hard. Most of us live at 44 per cent below poverty line.

So, in all fairness, there should also be an increase on disability rates and welfare. But, I guess the well is dry and we just have to try and pay the higher prices of things like food.

That time is going to come and nobody will be hurt harder than the poor. With higher minimum wages, the cost increase will be passed along to the consumer. James Readman
