Suspects arrested in Hudson Halloween shooting
Police say the 10-month long investigation was made more difficult because witnesses would not cooperate with police. «Detectives met with more than 80 people during the course of this investigation and many refused to speak with police,» said SQ communications spokesperson Daniel Thibaudeau. On Wednesday, police arrested Nathan Godina, 20, and Chase Viera, 21, both from Vaudreuil-Dorion. A third man was arrested but, as of Thursday, had not gone before a judge at the Salaberry-deValleyfield courthouse because he was already in custody on a previous charge. Thibaudeau said investigators were waiting for a judge to sign a request to get the man out of jail for a court appearance related to the Hudson shooting. A fourth man arrested in the case can not be named because he was a minor at the time of the incident. All four were charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and assault with a weapon relating to a shooting during an October 30, 2010 party at a home on Daoust St. in Hudson. Three men - a 17-year-old and two 21-year-olds - were wounded when one bullet was fired and then fragmented, striking all three partygoers. In addition to the four shooting suspects, police also arrested four more people in relation to drug ring that came to light during the course of the investigation. A 17 year-old girl and three men between the ages of 16 and 20 face drug trafficking charges. All live in the Vaudreuil-Soulanges region, said Thibaudeau. «All during the investigation everyone involved said (the shooting) was not related to drugs, but in the end it turned out it was about drugs,» he said. Calling the arrests «excellent and positive,» Hudson mayor Michael Elliott said Thursday that he was satisfied with the police work. The shooting occurred last year during a joint birthday party and Halloween celebration. It made news headlines when it was revealed police had asked the homeowner to cancel the party in light of death threats her son Christopher had received prior to the event. In the end, the mother of six did not cancel, saying she was told it was safe to host the party. Three men were shot with one bullet single bullet that fragmented after hitting the first victim. One man was shot in the mouth. A second was wounded when a portion of the bullet grazed his eyebrow. The third victim was shot in the back of the head. Police say the investigation is now closed.
