Cru­saders fall 24-3 in sea­son opener

The Carl­ton Cru­saders ran into a high-pow­ered pass­ing at­tack as they fell to the Wal­ter Mur­ray Ma­raud­ers in the open­ing game of the high school football sea­son.

The Ma­raud­ers tal­lied 377 yards of to­tal of­fence, 352 of which were through the air, on route to a 24-3 vic­tory at Saska­toon Mi­nor Football Field.

The Cru­saders re­sponded with 174 yards, 97 of which came on the ground. The squad also re­cov­ered three Wal­ter Mur­ray fum­bles. Ai­den Zwack scored the only points for Carl­ton on a 33-yard third quar­ter field goal.

Calvin Napope led the Cru­saders in rush­ing with 45 yards on six car­ries while Ethan Cartier led all re­ceivers with 42 yards on two re­cep­tions.

The Cru­saders re­turn to the gridiron on Fri­day, Sept. 15 when they travel back to Saska­toon for a date with the Evan Hardy Souls. Kick­off is 3 p.m. at Saska­toon Mi­nor Football Field.
