Crusaders fall 24-3 in season opener
The Carlton Crusaders ran into a high-powered passing attack as they fell to the Walter Murray Marauders in the opening game of the high school football season.
The Marauders tallied 377 yards of total offence, 352 of which were through the air, on route to a 24-3 victory at Saskatoon Minor Football Field.
The Crusaders responded with 174 yards, 97 of which came on the ground. The squad also recovered three Walter Murray fumbles. Aiden Zwack scored the only points for Carlton on a 33-yard third quarter field goal.
Calvin Napope led the Crusaders in rushing with 45 yards on six carries while Ethan Cartier led all receivers with 42 yards on two receptions.
The Crusaders return to the gridiron on Friday, Sept. 15 when they travel back to Saskatoon for a date with the Evan Hardy Souls. Kickoff is 3 p.m. at Saskatoon Minor Football Field.
