Raiders grab Sapego from Tri-City
The Prince Albert Raiders filled a vacant import spot and added to their defensive depth on Tuesday.
The Raiders claimed 18-year-old import defenceman Sergei Sapego off of waivers from the Tri-City Americans and re-assigned defenceman Tyler Lowe to the AJHL’s Drumheller Dragons to make room on the roster.
The Raiders expect Sapego to arrive in Prince Albert today.
“Sergei is a versatile defenceman,” Raiders general manager Curtis Hunt said in a media release. “He had good mobility and good hockey sense.”
Sopego notched two assists in three games with Tri-City this season. It was the only action he saw with the WHL club since being drafted in the second round of the 2017 WHL import draft.
The Vitebsk, Belarus native has represented his country at both the under18 and under-20 levels. Most recently he had one goal and one assist in seven names at the 2017 IIHF U18 World Championship in April.
