Story Time

Re­mem­ber in pri­mary school when it was story time? When the teacher pulled out a copy of The Voyage of the Dawn­treader and trans­ported us into an­other world where magic flowed and over­flowed back into the class­room, and an en­tire room of stu­dents sat still, trans­fixed by an­other re­al­ity? It was the safe zone where learn­ing did not hurt, or threaten, or judge. It was the high­light of the day.

What would have been lost if the teacher had kept on read­ing? If story time had lasted for more than one chap­ter, or one hour, or taken up an en­tire af­ter­noon? What now-out­dated facts were so important that they were granted es­sen­tial
