75TH An­niver­sary of ORP Blyskaw­ica

On 25 Novem­ber 1937 in Cowes (United King­dom) white-and-red flag was first raised on Pol­ish de­stroyer called ORP “Blyskaw­ica”. She was one of the most fa­mous ships in the Pol­ish Navy his­tory. The day of 25th of Novem­ber 2012 was the 75th an­niver­sary of that his­toric event.

Cel­e­bra­tions com­menced on Satur­day, Novem­ber 24 with a morn­ing his­tory ses­sion ded­i­cated to com­mem­o­rate the achieve­ments of the crew, the his­tory of the ship and her ex­em­plary ser­vice dur­ing World War II.

The main cel­e­bra­tions of the an­niver­sary, in ac­cor­dance to naval tra­di­tion, be­gun on Sun­day at 8:00 AM with rais­ing the col­ors and flags through­out the ship. At noon the main events fol­lowed with the ship be­ing dec­o­rated with the medal “Pro Me­mo­ria” and un­veil­ing a plaque com­mem­o­rat­ing the 75th an­niver­sary of the ship s ser­vice. The cer­e­mony was ac­com­pa­nied by the hon­orary guard and the Pol­ish Navy Rep­re­sen­ta­tive Orches­tra with par­tic­i­pa­tion of Pol­ish Navy Com­man­der-in-Chief Vice Ad­mi­ral (three Star) To­masz Mathea, the rep­re­sen­ta­tives of Cowes and Gdy­nia city, the for­mer crews of the ship and the Friends of Blyskaw­ica So­ci­ety.
