TV viewers have been hooked on Empire, which takes a look inside the hip-hop music business. Now the series’ creators are back with a new show that explores the cutthroat music business. It follows three talented singers as they face the reality of the industry, quickly learning along the way that ambition can sometimes cost too much.
Jude Demorest plays Star, a tough young woman who takes charge of her own destiny after having spent her youth in the foster care system. Brittany O’Grady plays her sister Simone, whom she has to track down after being separated by the system, and Ryan Destiny plays Alexandra, Star’s best friend who she met through Instagram.
Joining the young cast is Emmy Award winner Queen Latifah, who plays Carlotta, Star’s surrogate mother. Benjamin Bratt plays Jahil, an agent looking to revitalize his career. And Lenny Kravitz will be a regular guest star on the series as well, in a yet to be determined role. It will be up to these three veterans to lead the newcomers in their television debuts, and with Latifah and Kravitz having successfully navigated the music industry in their own lives, they add some credibility to the show’s fictional storylines.
