Late punt secures win for Tartans over Royals
Jaxon Ford punted for a tiebreaking single with 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Campbell Tartans a 28-27 victory over the Riffel Royals in Regina Intercollegiate Football League action Thursday.
Bennett Stusek had seven catches for 134 yards and two TDs for Campbell, which got three interceptions from Drew Lawrence, two from Aidan Mann, and one pick from Ford.
Tartans quarterback Matt Rivers threw for two TDs and ran for another major. Riffel’s Avery Wagner threw two TD passes — both to Ethan Ball, who had six receptions for 129 yards — and ran for two scores.
Also on Thursday, the LeBoldus Golden Suns got 118 rushing yards and two touchdowns from Larauche Akaffou en route to defeating the Miller Marauders 21-7.
Miller scored on a 10-yard run by Dallen Keen. Michael Clow had two sacks for the Marauders.
In another game on Thursday, Jordan Hoffart threw three TD passes to lead the Winston Knoll Wolverines to a 40-7 victory over the O’Neill Titans.
The Wolverines’ D’Sean Mimbs caught eight passes for 150 yards and two TDs. Winston Knoll’s Christian Katende rushed for 101 yards and another major. Kolten Bitz had a TD catch for O’Neill.
