Walking the path toward reconciliation

Richmond Hill Post - - News -

An event in Richmond Hill organized by community members seeks to raise awareness of the tragic history of Canada’s Indian residential school system and the need for reconciliation through music, film and art. The Secret Path, both the event and the film by Gord Downie, shines a spotlight on Chanie Wenjack, an Anishinabe boy who died on his way home after escaping a res- idential school. The event will feature musical performances as well as screenings of Downie’s film, as well as The Weight of Your Heart, a photographic documentary by Richmond Hill photographer Joel Clements (a photo from the series is pictured above), which follows Wenjack’s path as he walked it, introduced by Wenjack’s sister Pearl Wenjack Achneepineskum.
