The Ontario Provincial Police ( OPP) are reporting that 2016 marked the fourth consecutive year that inattentive drivers were behind the highest number of lives lost on Opp-patrolled roads over the other main causal factors in road fatalities, known as the “Big Four” (distracted driving, speeding, impaired driving and failure to buckle up). We request our readers to conduct responsibly and take a firm stand against those who endanger their lives by using their cell phones or engaging in other forms of distractions behind the wheel. Keeping our roads, communities, and families safe starts and ends with each of us. Let us do our part in making safety a priority.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s ( CVSA) 30th annual International Roadcheck will take place June 6-8, 2017. Over a 72hour period, Cvsa-certified commercial motor vehicle inspectors in jurisdictions throughout North America will conduct inspections of commercial motor vehicles and their drivers. This year’s focus is cargo securement. The campaign is a CVSA program with participation by the U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, Transport Canada, and the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (Mexico). Since its inception, more than 1.5 million roadside inspections have been conducted during the annual campaigns.
