THE EYES HAVE IT

First came high-shine nail lacquers topped with a dramatic stiletto-like lid and sumptuous lipsticks resembling ancient vials. Now, famed shoe designer Christian Louboutin has done it again with a unique eye makeup collection inspired by ancient Egypt. Artfully designed standout jewels of the collection include volumizing mascaras dressed in goldribbed brass and accented with a black-spiked crown, plus no-budge liquid liners with a long, calligraphy-inspired wand for precision. Louboutin’s selection of rich pigments like jet black, kohl blue, warm plum, and vibrant red—the same shade of scarlet as his legendary soles—pays homage to the colourful makeup of Kathakali, a classical form of Indian dance. As chic as you’d imagine, these splurge-worthy makeup staples are made to be on display—just like his footwear. Les Yeux Noirs Collection is available at Holt Renfrew.

FACE TIME

Danish-born, New York-based makeup artist Kirsten Kjær Weis has been at the forefront of luxurious, all-natural and sustainable beauty since launching her namesake cosmetics company in 2010. Her Italian-made makeup line, Kjaer Weis, is known for pushing green-beauty boundaries thanks to its high-performing, organic ingredients and architectural, refillable packaging. Recently, Weis bottled her clean ingredients list and keepsake packaging philosophy into the brand’s first skincare product, The Beautiful Oil. Made with glow-enhancing Chinese wild yam extract and a deeply-hydrating blend of wild rose, sweet almond seed, and olive and jojoba seed oil, a few drops of this golden face elixir is an indulgent treat for the skin. The Beautiful Oil is available at thedetoxmarket.ca.

PERFECT CANVAS

If you’ve found yourself frustrated at makeup counters because you had to walk away with a less-than-perfect foundation shade, we feel your pain. To add to the list of demands (hello: flattering finish, camouflaging blemishes and uneven tone, and staying put throughout the day), the biggest hurdle when it comes to selecting a base—especially for women with darker skin tones—is finding the right colour match. Luckily, Lancôme has an inclusive solution: the cosmetics giant has expanded its cult-favourite Teint Idole Ultra Wear 24H formula–which delivers all-day, cake-free bliss—to a complexion-friendly 40 shades. Teint Idole Ultra Wear 24H is available at lancome.ca

DREAM TEAM

YSL Beauté has snagged one of the most renowned names in beauty, appointing French makeup artist Tom Pecheux as its new global beauty director. Formerly a consultant for Shiseido and artistic director for Estée Lauder, Pecheux’s killer career spans three decades and he is beloved by models and designers alike. He’s responsible for countless runway and ad campaign looks for Balmain, Dolce & Gabanna and Ralph Lauren, among others, and has been the beauty mastermind behind some of the most iconic magazine cover shoots, like the flushedcheeked Princess Diana on the front of Vanity Fair in 1997. In his new role at YSL, you’ll find Pecheux in the labs developing products, and in the studio creating makeup looks on brand muses for campaigns. We can’t wait to see all the maquillage magic his expert eye brings.

BLOOMING BRILLIANCE

Aerin Lauder is dreaming up roses. The granddaughter of legendary beauty mogul, Estée Lauder, has captured her fondest memories of her favourite flower in a new trio of floral colognes. “The scent alone relaxes, energizes or inspires me,” says the beauty and lifestyle brand guru about the blossom. White Bulgarian rose takes centre stage with each fragrance bouquet among blends of citrus, fresh greens, additional rose essences and soft spices. There’s Bamboo Rose, an olfactive celebration of Asian gardens; Linen Rose, a retreat to the beaches of East Hampton; and Garden Rose, an exploration of English countryside wildflowers. True reflections of Aerin’s personal ease and sophistication, these scents are nothing short of exquisite. The Aerin Rose Cologne Collection is available at esteelauder.ca.
