Sale of town hall nearly complete

Sackville Tribune - - NEWS -

CAO Michael Beal, with the deal expected to close on May 1 (unless the rezoning/change to business district for the property isn’t approved).

Beal said once the papers are signed, council will divulge what the developer’s plans are for the 80-year-old brick building in the centre of downtown Sackville and the pricetag agreed upon.

The purchase and sale agreement was based on the Laffords’ submission in the ‘Request for Expression of Interest’ (REOI). The town issued the REOIS last summer in order to determine the level of interest in both the town hall building and the fire station building and to see what developers had in mind for the two facilities. Although the REOIS generated plenty of initial interest, only one proposal was submitted for town hall.

The REOI laid out certain criteria the developers had to follow in order to purchase the building, including: having an economic as well as a social benefit, bringing tax dollars into the community, creating jobs, and ensuring the heritage aspect of the building is preserved.
