Town, business leaders meet to discuss economic development

Sackville Tribune - - NEWS - BY KATIE TOWER STAFF REPORTER

SACKVILLE, N.B. – Economic development was on the agenda as town staff met recently with a number of business leaders in the community.

Jamie Burke, Sackville’s senior manager of corporate projects, said a meeting was set up earlier this month with about 10 local business owners to discuss the town’s future economic development potential.

“A lot of great ideas and suggestions were shared at the meeting,” said Burke. “Overall the meeting and response was positive.”

Burke said staff will be assembling an overview of the major themes that were discussed at the meeting so issues can be prioritized and progressed.

Although Sackville does not currently have an economic development strategy, Burke said these types of meetings could certainly be stepping stones towards developing some sort of plan or approach that could be taken by the municipality – such as, for example, determining where best to allocate resources.

Coun. Ron Aiken said who better to gain that expertise from than those who’ve been successful in business in Sackville over a period of time.
