THPCO Fundraising Recitals a Success
More than $1,000 was raised for the Tantramar Hospice Palliative Care Organization (THPCO) as a result of the fundraising recitals held in Sackville on May 20 and 21.
The recitals, held in the bright and airy Skyloft Studio at Janet Hammock and Marilyn Lerch’s home in Sackville, featured a springtime bouquet of music and poetry, followed by refreshments and conversation. Performers included Danise Ferguson, cello, Janet Hammock, piano, James Mark, clarinet and Penelope Mark, piano. Poetry was recited by Robert Lapp, and Sackville poet laureate Marilyn Lerch read three new poems.
A solo piano work by Toronto composer Beverly Lewis, written especially for these recitals, was premiered by Janet Hammock. THPCO chair Stephen Claxton-oldfield, who attended the Saturday afternoon recital said, “It was a fantastic recital, very uplifting. I can’t thank Janet enough for organizing this. I would also like to thank all of the performers for giving so generously of their time and talents and for donating the proceeds from ticket sales to our organization.”
The money raised will be used to help fund a workshop for health care professionals on the topic of how to effectively support LGBTQ2 individuals at the end of life. The workshop is tentatively scheduled for the fall of 2017.
