Susan Paterson exhibit opens at Fog Forest Gallery
Collection of new oil paintings a culmination of artist’s long, dedicated practice
A collection of new oil paintings by Susan Paterson represents a culmination of her long and dedicated practice, her attention to detail and her love of painting.
Fog Forest Gallery is welcoming the Nova Scotia painter back to the gallery for a solo exhibition. It begins with an artist’s reception Thursday, Oct. 11, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. All are welcome to attend.
“I recall in 2008, how Susan Paterson expressed to me her excitement to be attending a painting workshop at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston,” says Janet Crawford, owner of Fog Forest. “It would be a workshop in oil painting . . . the old master’s techniques.
“Painting in oil would be a departure from her practice in watercolour and intaglio printmaking, and I was keen to see how she would respond to this new medium. I could not have predicted how perfectly suited this new approach to making art would be to Susan.”
Now, after 10 years of perfecting her technique, Paterson’s oldworld still life paintings are highly sought after. Although she paints in a high realism style, her works are paintings in every sense.
The exhibition, consisting of 14 new oil paintings, continues until Nov. 10, 2018.
