Concert pianist Andrew Son performs at Brunton
A rising young concert artist will be performing in Sackville.
The public is invited to Brunton Auditorium at Mount Allison University to enjoy pianist Andrew Son on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 3 p.m.
In April, Son was chosen from five accomplished competitors at the Atlantic Young Artist Competition. As the 2018 competition winner, he will embark on a concert tour of the region, with recitals in Charlottetown, Sackville, Yarmouth, Wolfville, Halifax, and Mahone Bay. The Sackville concert is presented with the support of the Mount Allison University department of music.
Son will present a varied program, including Haydn’s Sonata in C Major, Hob. XVI: 48, Mendelssohn’s Variations sérieuses, Liszt’s Paraphrase on Verdi’s Rigoletto, and Chopin’s Sonata No. 3 in B minor, Op. 58.
A recipient of the Fountain School of Performing Arts Undergraduate Scholarship and an IB Renewable Scholarship, Son is currently in his second year at Dalhousie University, majoring in neuroscience with a minor in music. He studies piano with Lynn Stodola and Peter Allen.
No stranger to the national stage, Son represented Nova Scotia at the 2015 Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Associations (CFMTA) National Piano Competition in Vancouver. As winner of the advanced class of the 2018 NS Registered Music Teachers’ Association Scholarship Competition, he will once again represent his home province at the 2019 CFMTA piano competition, this time in Winnipeg. This past August, Son was the first-place winner in the piano division at the 2018 National Music Festival in Sackville and was named Second Place Grand Award winner at the final gala concert.
Tickets for the Sackville Young Artist Concert are available at the door; admission is free for all students. For additional information regarding the Sackville concert, contact Margaret Ann (Peggy) Craig at 506364-2374 or by e-mail at email@example.com.
