Intoxicated man rescued from river was wanted for theft
An intoxicated man who was rescued from the river at the CP train bridge was arrested when police discovered he was wanted in connection with a theft.
City police were called to the river near the bridge on Tuesday at 8:29 p.m. for a report of a man walking in the water. Police then got a second call saying the man was holding onto a bridge pillar.
Officers arrived and found the 37-year-old, who was intoxicated. The fire department’s water rescue team retrieved him brought him to shore, where police were waiting. They learned he was wanted in connection with a theft. He was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000.
