NHL, play­ers union chip in for Houston

The NHL and the NHL Play­ers’ As­so­ci­a­tion are mak­ing a joint do­na­tion of US$200,000 to aid re­lief ef­forts in the Houston area as trop­i­cal storm Har­vey has caused in­tense flood­ing and dam­age. The money will be split evenly be­tween the Amer­i­can Red Cross and Habi­tat for Hu­man­ity. The joint state­ment from the league and the play­ers’ as­so­ci­a­tion said the do­na­tion to the Amer­i­can Red Cross will sup­port shel­ters and the dis­tri­bu­tion of food and sup­plies, while the do­na­tion to Habi­tat for Hu­man- ity will sup­port the re­build­ing of lost and dam­aged homes.
