From rock to the Bard, livestreaming this week

Regina rock and country cover band Tequila Mockingbird is performing its first show in a while. While belting out Top 40 hits at home might not hold the same appeal as in a crowded bar, it’s better than nothing, right?

Be virtually transported to Birds Hill Park for the Winnipeg Folk Festival at Home! The onenight festival features past WFF performances by artists including A Tribe Called Red, Bahamas, Dakhabrakha, Jason Isbell and The Sheepdogs. And, there are new performances by Alan Doyle, Bombargo, Vance Joy, William Prince and many more. To cap it all off, there’s a folk fest finale singalong with the amazing Begonia!

There’s no Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan this year. But if you’re jonesing for your summer fix of the Bard, Theatre Calgary has got you covered. Shakespeare by the Bow presents Romeo & Juliet. The 50-minute production stars emerging actors of Alberta, including Anna Dalgleish and Zach Running Coyote as the titular starcrossed lovers.

The Saskatchewan Festival of Words presents a weeklong virtual celebration of Canadian literature. It starts Monday with a “readception” — five-minute mini readings by Naben Ruthnum (a.k.a. Nathan Ripley), Steven Price, Jay Ingram, Amanda Leduc, Farah Heron, and
Lindsay Wong. Through Saturday, tune in daily and nightly for more readings, interviews, workshops and performances.
