SD& G customers have put Cornwall resident, Josée Lemieux-Bailey’s name into the ring to win the SavvyMom Mom Entrepreneur of the Year Award, a readers’ choice contest designed to find Canada's top Mom Entrepreneur. The winner will be announced in October, and will be rewarded with a $ 15,500 that was designed to help take that business to the next level.
Steward Bags officially launched Feb. 16, 2009. Josée was awarded Most Promising New Business Award 2009 in June by the Women Entrepreneurs of Cornwall. Steward Bags are currently sold in 15 retail locations in Canada, including Baxtrom’s Your Independent Grocer, Harvest Garden Center Gift Shop & Restaurant, Glengarry Bee Hive, Vankleek Cottage Gift Shop, and the Cornwall Farmers’ Market. Mompreneur Magazine recognized her 100% organic produce bags as a “ live green product” in their June 2009 “ Eco-Issue.” She recently established a stewardship bursary in conjunction with two local high schools as well as a grant for a university-level student involved in a habitat conservation project in Costa Rica.
“ Steward bags was inspired by my family’s love for the outdoors and our concern for the growing plastic bag problem,” says owner Josée Lemieux-Bailey. “ If I am honoured with the title of Mom Entrepreneur of the Year, I plan to use the award money to help build more awareness of our Earthfriendly alternative to plastic bags, and spend some research dollars to develop new green products.”
Throughout the contest period, Savvymom. ca will be hosting a “ Mom Entrepreneurs Gallery” at www. mompentreneuraward. com. One vote can be cast per e-mail address.
