The search is on!
The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada ( CCFC) is searching for the nation’s ‘ Gutsiest’ Canadians. Canada has among the highest rates of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis in the world. There are more than 200,000 Canadians personally affected by Crohn’s and colitis and there is a much larger network of caregivers, friends, family and members of the medical community whose lives are dedicated to these diseases and who deserve to be recognized. Seven outstanding Canadians will be honoured in the month of November as CCFC celebrates Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Month.
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis ( UC) are two similar, yet distinct, conditions which directly affect the diges- tive system and cause intestinal tissue to become inflamed, form sores and bleed easily. There is no cure, no known cause, and little public understanding of the pain and chronic suffering which IBD patients courageously cope with every day of their lives.
If you know someone who bravely faces inflammatory bowel disease ( IBD) and is making a difference in his/ her community or in the lives of others, or if you know someone who deserves recognition for his/ her support of an individual with IBD, you are invited to nominate a member of the IBD community by completing the nomination form online at www. getgutsymonth. com. Entries will be accepted from Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 until Friday, Oct. 9, 2009.
