Green Clean Kids grant awarded to Corn­wall girl

All it took to get no­ticed was a let­ter and a lit­tle in­ter­est in the en­vi­ron­ment. Jen­nifer Bes­ner, a 7 year old sec­ond grade stu­dent at Eamer’s Cor­ners Pub­lic School, was awarded a grant of $500 from the Sun­light Green Clean Kids pro­gram to help with her school’s gar­den ini­tia­tive. have asthma like my sis­ter and mom. My mom says that more trees and plants mean more clean air to breathe,” said Jen­nifer.

Once the grant was re­ceived, Jen­nifer, her class­mates and teacher went shop­ping to­gether for plants. Her mother said they pri­mar­ily bought peren­ni­als so they would grow back each year af­ter the win­ter. “I’m so proud of her, even just for ap­ply­ing.”

Kids from Corn­wall can still par­tic­i­pate

Green Grant ap­pli­ca­tions can come from in­di­vid­ual kids aged six to 13, their school clubs or com­mu­nity groups. Cana­dian kids can visit www.Sun­light­Green­CleanKids.ca to ap­ply or to down­load a mail-in ap­pli­ca­tion. Kids are asked to share their green idea in 150 words or less. Ap­pli­ca­tions must be re­ceived be­tween Oc­to­ber 5, 2009 and Novem­ber 30, 2010 and will be re­viewed ev­ery three months. The next dead­line is June 30.
