Green Clean Kids grant awarded to Cornwall girl
All it took to get noticed was a letter and a little interest in the environment. Jennifer Besner, a 7 year old second grade student at Eamer’s Corners Public School, was awarded a grant of $500 from the Sunlight Green Clean Kids program to help with her school’s garden initiative. have asthma like my sister and mom. My mom says that more trees and plants mean more clean air to breathe,” said Jennifer.
Once the grant was received, Jennifer, her classmates and teacher went shopping together for plants. Her mother said they primarily bought perennials so they would grow back each year after the winter. “I’m so proud of her, even just for applying.”
Kids from Cornwall can still participate
Green Grant applications can come from individual kids aged six to 13, their school clubs or community groups. Canadian kids can visit www.SunlightGreenCleanKids.ca to apply or to download a mail-in application. Kids are asked to share their green idea in 150 words or less. Applications must be received between October 5, 2009 and November 30, 2010 and will be reviewed every three months. The next deadline is June 30.
