Francis wins World of Outlaws feature race
The World of Outlaws were in Cornwall Motor Speedway on Father’s Day part of the Great Northern Tour. These big block powered beasts had a 50-lap feature race with the winner leaving Cornwall with $ 10,000 in his pockets; more than $ 75,000 in prize money was given out during the evening. A full show of Modified, Pro-Stock, Semi-Pro and Mini-Stock was also on the card on D&A Tractor Sales and Glen’s Towing Night.
The World of Outlaws Late Models 50-lap feature race started with Steve Francis and Clint Smith on the front row. Francis took the early lead, with Darrell Lanigan in second and Smith in third. Francis got into traffic with 7 laps down. Tim McCreadie brought the caution on lap 11 as when off the track on turn 1. Francis kept the lead with Smith back in second with Dan Stone in battle for third with Lanigan. Francis got back into traffic on lap 17 as Lanigan got away for third in those conditions with 30 laps to go. At the halfway point, the top 5 was Francis, Smith, Lanigan, Tim Fuller and Shane Clanton. Smith lost some ground with Lanigan and Fuller passed him when series point leader, Josh Richards came to a stop and caution came out on lap 31. Francis got jump with Fuller strong on the outside when Russ King stopped in the backstretch on lap 32. Francis stayed first with Fuller in second, the Watertown Ny, driver got close to Francis with Billy Decker now cracking the top 5 with 15 laps to go. Francis was back into slower cars with 39 laps in the books. Francis pulled away from Fuller when Chub Frank spun out with only 6 laps to go in the finale. Francis kept his lead with another great start with Fuller and Lanigan in to battle for second. Francis led the final laps to win the feature, Lanigan passed Fuller in the last laps to finish second in front of Fuller, Decker and Austin Hubbard made a late charge to complete the top 5. As usual, the World of Outlaws put on a real show for the huge crowd at Cornwall.
The 30-lap modified feature was next on the track after the WOO Lates. Luke Whitteker led the first lap when caution came out for Kayle Robidoux that got tangled up in turn 4. Kyle Dingwall took the lead over Whitteker and Danny O’Brien in third as Ron Valade brought caution on lap 2. Dingwall still on top with Laurent Ladouceur on the move taking third on O’Brien and then second on Whitteker a lap later as the race had 7 laps completed. O’Brien came back and charged Ladouceur for second. The top 3 got closer as the race went to halfway point. Dingwall got into traffic and Ladouceur was on the bumper of Dingwall when Brian McDonald slowed the feature with him stopping in turn 2 with 10 laps to go. On the restart, Ladouceur took the lead on Dingwall with O’Brien watching in third. O’Brien used the top line to pass Dingwall for second with 23 laps down as Yan Bussière was now in fourth spot and Whitteker closing the top 5 with only 5 laps to go. O’Brien was now on the backbumper of Ladouceur but O’Brien went too high in turn 4 and lost ground and was now in third. Ladouceur led the final laps to win over Dingwall, O’Brien, Bussière and Whitteker rounded out the top 5.
Steve Johnston took the early lead in the 20-lap Pro-Stock Feature and led the first lap as Dion Oakes took the lead on the next lap with Dave Bissonnette now second and Ricky Thompson in third with 5 laps down. Bissonnette using the inside lane, passed Oakes for the lead on lap 6. Thompson used the same strategy to pass Oakes for second on lap 9. Louie Jackson and Joey Ladouceur were completing the top 5 with dozen laps in. The first caution came out on lap 17 and brought the field together. Bissonnette still in front on the restart with Ladouceur taking fourth on Oakes as Jackson was strong on the top and took second in the last turn to finish behind Bissonnette who led the final laps to win the feature. Thompson completed the podium with Ladouceur and Oakes finishing the top 5.
Kevin Fetterly Jr. led the first lap in the 15-lap SemiPro Feature when Kevin Clement brought caution. Fetterly led the way with Kevin McCrae in second and Richard Lalonde in third. Adam Delormier lost a wheel in the backstretch and caution came on lap 4. On the restart, Fetterly was still first as James Guerin rolled over and the red flag came out on lap 5. Fetterly still the leader with Gaetan Amesse now in third spot and closing in on McCrae for second with 5 laps to go. Sloane Shuman brought the yellow on the same lap. Fetterly in first with Amesse and McCrae following the leader with 2 laps to go, Fetterly led the final laps to win the feature over Amesse and McCrae in third.
The Mini-Stock took the track first with their 12-lap feature race; David Seguin took the early lead over Marc Usereau and Marc Chartrand. Ronnie Tyo paced through the field and was now third with 4 laps in. Usereau was now the new leader on lap 5 as the caution came out on the same lap for Chris James. Usereau kept the lead with Tyo strong in second but had a flat tire and caution came back out in lap 8. Pair of car # 2 was racing side by side with Usereau in first and Ben Nurse in second. Usereau was able to resist and won the feature race over Nurse and Martin Bernard completed the top 3.
