KEEPING WARM: Coat drive in full gear
CORNWALL, Ontario – A new coat drive is ready to heat things up this winter.
As cold weather draws closer and temperatures start to drop, Joel Leger is organizing a new initiative to help the city’s underprivileged stay warm.
The first annual Cornwall Spine Care Plus - One Warm Coat drive is asking the community to donate funds and new or gently used winter coats.
“It fills a need within the community that wasn’t currently being satisfied,” said Leger, owner of Cornwall Spine Care Plus.
It all started to help local families who are forced to make financial decisions between purchasing clothing for the upcoming winter months and food for the holiday season.
“By supplying coats to these individuals and families, we are indirectly simplifying this decision,” he said.
Aside from winter coats, monetary donations are also accepted and will go towards buying new coats for distribution to the less fortunate in Cornwall and area. All funds and coats raised during the 2013 campaign will go directly to the local Salvation Army.
“Charitable organizations are in desperate need of new and used clothing items to help individuals and families combat the rugged winter weather,” said Leger. “At Spine Care Plus, our primary goal is to guide and educate this community on all facets related to health and optimal physical function.”
If you’re interested in donating, visit Cornwall Spine Care Plus at 117 Eleventh Street West, any Friday from Nov. 29 to Dec. 20, 2013 between 9 a. m. to 3 p. m. Call 613- 938- 1000 or visit online at www. spinecareplus.ca.
