Big changes are coming to the Upper Canada District School Board this year. Like municipalities across Ontario, the UCDSB is holding elections for its trustees and chair in October. So far both the UCDSB Chair Jeff Mcmillan and local trustee Wendy Macpherson have announced that they will not be seeking re-election. This board had a tumultuous term because of the Pupil Accommodation Review process that saw several schools in the board close. Whether they would be re-elected or not, I understand why some board members would not be eager to run again.
The high school senior badminton championships were held at Holy Trinity recently. Kristen Macrae of Glengarry District High School won gold for the girls singles and Brandon Watkins of Tagwi won first for the boys.
Beware of scams! Scammers have recently taken out classified ads in some newspapers in SD&G. The ad asks for people to apply to be a caregiver to an elderly mother-in-law, but the scammers ask applicants for their personal information. Potential employers do not need your SIN or credit card info. If you think someone is trying to scam you, contact the OPP.
